The Ernie Warren Collection

We are pleased, if also sad, to announce The Ernie Warren Collection auction to be held off-site at the family home on Saturday 13th June.

A long-time friend and client of Lacy Scott & Knight, Ernie amassed an amazing collection of vintage cars, automobilia, live steam and static engines over the course of his life.  The mostly pre-war vintage car collection ranges from a 1905 Darracq 8/10HP  through Humber Tourers, various Talbots, 1920s Austins, Alvis, Wolseley, Rolls Royce and more.

His passion for vintage cars in particular led to him regularly opening up his home and collection to fellow enthusiasts, as well as visiting other workshops and collections – in fact he had only recently returned from a trip to the French National Motor Museum before becoming ill.

A 1938 MG VA 4 seat Tourer - £15,000-18,000

A long-standing local building contractor whose family have been part of the fabric of Bury St Edmunds and its surroundings for decades.  He regularly carried out work for his local church St Clare’s in Bradfield St Clare, as well as undertaking bespoke renovation works.  Undoubtedly, his most renowned build was the iconic ‘Zodiac House’ on Whiting Street in Bury St Edmunds, which he bought and rebuilt during the slum clearances of the 1960s – the “medieval” pargetting still convinces many a tourist!

As a regular at our auctions, Ernie is much-missed and will be remembered by many for his immensely generous and friendly character.

A 1913 Straker-Squire 15 HP 2-seat Tourer  £23,000-25,000

Alongside the vintage cars and related effects, live steam and static engines, there is also a large collection of tools, architectural salvage, garden and building-plant machinery and materials, general effects, and household items.   Ernie also had a collection of good quality clocks, which will be included in our 23rd June Fine Art & Antiques auction.

The auction will be held at Bradfield St Clare on 13th June with viewing on the 12th June 10am-7pm.  Further details coming soon - register on this page to receive a reminder when the catalogue is live

Buyers premium for this auction will be 10% plus VAT.

A 1914 Humber 11 HP 4 seat Tourer £18,000-20,000
