These sales held twice a year in June and December include military and honorific medals, antique firearms, uniforms, edged weapons and other related ephemera. Followed by sporting and country related pieces to include; taxidermy, fishing tackle, shotguns and related attire, along with sporting pictures and prints.
Recent highlights include a Chinese Boxer Rebellion period sword, which sold for £5300, an 1877-79 South Africa medal for £5200, a cased pair of 19th century flintlock duelling pistols by Wogdon & Barton, which made £5000, and a William IV Golfing Society medal which sold for £3300.
The poignant history of many of these items forms the main attraction. A recent auction included a remarkable collection of First World War medals and ephemera belonging to Lieutenant Douglas Alliban DFC (1898-1971) of the Sherwood Foresters / Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, Royal Flying Corps & Royal Air Force. It offered a fascinating insight into one incredibly brave man’s experience as a pilot in the nascent field of aerial photography during World War One in the ever-volatile Middle East. The collection included photographs, notebooks, pilot's logbook, and personal effects. It sold for £3300.
Another highlight was a large single-owner collection of rural bygones and museum-quality taxidermy from some of the most renowned ‘animal and bird preservers’ from the Victorian era and later entitled 'A Broad Collection from a lifetime by The Broads’, which we sold in December 2020 and proved hugely popular with collectors around the country.
