A cap won by England's World Cup-winning footballer and manager Sir Alf Ramsey is lot 710 in our 10th September Music, Film & Sport Memorabilia auction.

The cap was awarded for the England vs Yugoslavia International Friendly held at Highbury, Wednesday 22nd November 1950; a game in which Ramsey was Captain and resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Sir Alfred Ernest Ramsey (1920-1999), who most famously managed England to win the 1966 World Cup, played for his country 32 times, captaining them three times and scoring three goals.   He also managed Ipswich Town from 1955 to 1963 and was in charge of the First Division-winning team in the 1961-62 season.

After his retirement from football in 1979-80 he moved to Ipswich with his wife Lady Victoria Ramsey, where he stayed until his death in 1999.

This cap was acquired directly from Lady Ramsey by the current vendor whilst working as a painter and decorator at her home in Ipswich, a letter to support this signed by Lady Ramsey and dated 30/09/2011 accompanies this lot.

The lot has an estimate of £2000-3000.
