Music and Film memorabilia is an area which virtually everyone can relate to. Whether you're a collector or not, most people would still love to own something which their favourite movie idol or rock god has signed, a work of poster art which brings back memories of a great festival or iconic film, or a first release vinyl of an album which went on to define the music scene of an era. Let's face it, everybody has a favourite film or music star! Therefore, we're excited to launch our new Music & Film Memorabilia auctions, with the first sale taking place on 23rd March at 3pm.
For movie buffs we have film posters from 1953's How to Marry a Millionaire, through James Bond's The Man with the Golden Gun to all three Back to The Futures, Reservoir Dogs (signed by the cast), and a rare edition of the Star Wars Episode 1 Phantom Menace with Anakin's shadow in the shape of Darth Vader. Elsewhere in the sale, a framed display of autographs from the stars of Casablanca and a 1989 Batman promotional retailers stand share catalogue space with 1970s quad film posters and a collection of ephemera relating to tragic 'blonde bombshell' Marilyn Monroe.
From the world of music there is a 1963 Fender Precision bass guitar and a Fender Telecaster signed by the members of Status Quo alongside a Victorian concertina and violin, and 1970s Quad loudspeakers. We have festival posters including Woodstock, Abbafest, and Crosby, Still, Nash & Young. Iconic rockstars are represented by a framed CD gold disc with signed photograph of The Rolling Stones, and a framed 'Who Are You' t-shirt signed by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. If you're a purist and love the music for its own sake without the distraction of egos and hero-worship, then we have hundreds of vinyl LPs and 45 records dating from the 1960s onwards.
Obviously, no auction of music memorabilia would be complete without The Beatles, and this sale is no exception. Local award-winning photographer Tom Murray has consigned two of his photographs from the legendary Summer of '68 - Mad Day Out shoot, both of which were gifted back to him and signed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. We also have Beatles posters, Beatles toy merchandise, and masses of early pressing vinyl LPs.
There is original artwork by John Higgins for the 1988 Judge Dredd annual, and a framed set of six Harry Potter giclee print original pencil sketches by Warner Bros artist Fred Bode. Also included is an autograph book including signatures of Laurel & Hardy, Peter Sellers, Des O'Connor and other names from the 'Golden Age' of television.
In short, this sale has something for everyone - whether you're in need of a microphone stand or a clarinet, an iconic piece of artwork, a touch of stardust or just some good tunes.
