Wine Auctions returning to Lacy Scott & Knight

We are pleased to announce the re-introduction of our regular Wine Auctions and to welcome wine consultant Gerald Hobson to the team. These sales will commence on Friday 14th December in conjunction with our Fine Art & Antiques sale which will be held the following day.

Long-standing clients may recall that we held these auctions until the mid 1990s when the market effectively 'dried-up'. However, the market has changed considerably over recent years and fine wine is becoming increasingly attractive to many people, offering a combination of stability, low risk, high yields and edification. Demand has therefore risen enormously; recently prices of 100 different wines on the Liv-ex (the equivalent of the FTSE 100 for wines) jumped by 42 per cent, outperforming other asset classes such as oil, copper and gold. However, wine collecting is not necessarily just for the extremely wealthy and can be as much a lifestyle or a hobby. Recent years have seen a distinct change in the national palate, and our appreciation of wine has greatly increased. Overall, building a good collection does not require underground cellars or a large investment but simply a passion for wine.

Our newly-appointed wine consultant Gerald Hobson has a long established passion for fine wines, which has led him to build an enviable cellar. Gerald's extensive knowledge in this field means that he can offer advice regarding individual bottles and larger collections. Home visits can be arranged to give valuations and discuss consignments, otherwise you can make an appointment to meet Gerald at the Auction Centre.

Although wine will be the main attraction in these sales, we will also be offering both fine and affordable ports and spirits. Therefore, if you are on the lookout for something special for the festive season, or simply to augment your drinks cabinet, it will be worth looking at our catalogue or popping along.

Entries are now closed for the auction and our catalogue will be available approximately two weeks before the sale.

We will be open for viewing on Thursday 13th December from 10am - 7pm.
