HOPLEY Thomas, Facts bearing on the death of Reginald Channell Cancellor; with a supplement and a sequel, London 1860, 8vo cloth, 90pp and 3pp publishers adverts. Thomas Hopley was imprisoned for the manslaughter of Reginald Channell Cancellor, Alfred Swaine Taylor's nephew.
Otherwise known as the Eastbourne Manslaughter case, whereby Taylor's 15 year old nephew Reginald Cancellor was found dead after being severely beaten by his teacher Thomas Hopley at private boarding school in Eastbourne. Apparently Reginald was not a good student, and Hopley asked Reginald's father (John Henry Cancellor, Caroline Taylor's brother) if he was permitted to use severe corporal punishment to discipline the boy. Reginald was found dead in his bedroom on 22nd April 1860. The initial verdict given was natural causes, but rumours began to spread that Mrs Hopley had been up all night cleaning up the evidence of her husband beating the boy. An inquest was ordered when Reginald's brother went to the collect the body and requested an autopsy due to discrepancies between reports. Reginald was found to have been brutally beaten shortly before his death and was covered in cuts and bruises. Further evidence from servants in the household proved damning. Hopley, however, was confident that he would be acquitted and penned this account to be published after the trial. Hopley was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison. This pamphlet was published by an associate of Hopley's after his conviction.

Alternatively we can send by Parcelforce 48 with insurance charged at £4 upto £500 cover, £8-£1000 cover, £12-£1500 and £20-£2500 cover. If you instruct your own courier packing is charged at £8 per parcel.
