Five substantial vellum bound ledgers containing the proceedings of the Court Baron held at Dagworth with Sorrells, near Stowmarket, Suffolk between 1682 and 1859, together with a bundle of some 27 separate large vellum sheets with further documents dating from 1659. (Court Baron – definition - an inferior manorial court presided over by its lord or his steward that had jurisdiction over certain cases (as petty offenses) arising on the manor and affecting its tenants and that was abolished in England in 1867). Vol 1 in limp vellum covers 1682 to 1698 in a flamboyant Latin hand. Vol 2 in limp vellum covers 1699 to 1769, initially in Latin, changing to English around 1710. The remaining volumes are hard bound in vellum. Later entries in the final volume include Indentures and there is one final entry from 1925, by which time the Court Baron had ceased to exist. A fascinating source of primary historical records with significant local importance. [6]
Please can all prospective bidders note that this may contain manorial documents which are subject to the Manorial Documents Rules 1959, 1963 and 1967, administered by The Historical Manuscripts Commission at The National Archives on behalf of the Master of the Rolls. Accordingly the purchasers of the documents lie under an obligation to notify the Secretary of the Commission of their acquisition and to provide details of where they will be kept. They may in no circumstances be removed from England and Wales without the prior consent of the Master of the Rolls. Jewellery, watches, coins and high value small items will be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery with maximum insurance of £2500.

Alternatively we can send by Parcelforce 48 with insurance charged at £4 upto £500 cover, £8-£1000 cover, £12-£1500 and £20-£2500 cover. Lacy Scott & Knight accept no liability for items which are damaged or lost during postage, and cannot and will not assist in any claims unless insurance cover has been taken out. If you instruct your own courier packing is charged at £8 per parcel.
