Lot details

1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam

Reg No. NMF2L

Chassis No. 72031465P

Black with Black interior (originally Lotus Yellow)

Odometer 36533

Lotus Europa’s were produced between 1996 and 1975, a total of 9,230 being made. They used a backbone chassis and lightweight fibreglass body which was fully bonded to the chassis for additional strength. The mounting of the engine and gearbox behind the cabin allowed for the main chassis member to run straight forward to intersect a large box-section cross-beam running across the car between the front suspension points. At the rear, the chassis split into a "U" shape to accommodate combined engine, transmission and final-drive components and to support the rear suspension.

The first models used powertrains from Renault’s 16, the Twin Cam using the Lotus/Ford unit of 1588cc.

This Lotus is definitely a “barn find”, found blocked up on three wheels with a new brake master cylinder in place but not connected to the pedal nor system fluid replaced. However, with fuel drained and refreshed, with the aid of a jump connection the engine fired and once cleared runs with good oil pressure.

Clearly, recommissioning work will be required to return this iconic sports car to the road but this could be achieved quickly and inexpensively or alternatively be an ideal candidate for a full restoration.

There is a full Lotus workshop manual with the car along with sundry bills and receipts.

Sold with V5.
