The Peter Jackson collection of Modern British Art
We are pleased to offer this stand-alone auction showcasing the late Modern British artist Peter Jackson (1930-2019)
Born in the East End of London, Jackson was evacuated to Hampshire during the second world war before being conscripted into the RAF. His life was changed after completing his national service when he formed a friendship with the artist Sven Berlin, who encouraged him to start sculpting.
Jackson enrolled at Corsham Court Art College (part of the Bath Academy of Art) in the 1950s and studied under a cast of modern British greats including William Scott, Anthony Fry, Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost and many others. Despite these strong influences, Jackson forged his own path, particularly towards the abstract.
After moving into teaching in the 1960s, Jackson took early retirement at the age of 51 and moved to Tattingstone, Suffolk, where he took to painting full time. He exhibited widely during this time as well as performing as an amateur jazz musician.
Jackson was working on a retrospective of his work with the Jackson Foundation gallery Cornwall just prior to his death in 2019.
The auction will take place on Friday 11th July at 11am.
