A metal deed box with contents of mainly George III period vellum indentures and other legal documents, many relating to the Herbert family and the Bedford area, most with blue official seals and further red seal stamps, to include: annuities, leases, deeds of covenant, deeds of exchange, probates etc. Individual documents of interest being: 1706, 1708 and 1709 Queen Anne deeds; George II denizen grant of letters patent listing several ‘alien born’ people; 1727 four-page probate distribution between members of the Clerke family of Bucks, with reference to land in Shabbington and therefore possible related to the Clerke Baronets of Hitcham; 1723 four-page release of land in Shabbington from Lady Clerke (widow of Sir William); 1730 indenture for land in Ormskirk from Edward Stanley 11th Earl of Derby; 1749 hand-written copy of a 1648 marriage settlement contract; 1767 Halmot Court indenture regarding West Derby property belonging to politician Sir Bamber Gascoyne of Childwall Hall, Lancashire, 1785 lease between Lord John Coleraine, his brothers William and George, and Thomas Masters, for land in Kempsford (The younger brother, George, who inherited the 4th Baronetcy after William’s death, had a reputation as a womaniser and gambler, who took part in the American Revolutionary Wars and became a great friend of the Prince Regent upon his return); 1788 & 1789 assessment of Church rates; 1793 contract regarding navigable securities in the Bedford area between George Fitzjohn and Caleb & Mary Hill; 1801 lease for a property in Covent Garden (including the uses and businesses which are not allowed to happen there such as melting of tallow or blacksmithing) between Mrs Ann Peacock and Mr John Le Jeune, and a further 1841 lease for Mrs Peacock also in Covent Graden; 1854 record of property obtained by Reverend Daniel Brent of Grendon under the Bounty of Queen Anne scheme (whereby the incomes of poorer clergy were augmented, mostly from land income), with officla blue stamp, illustration of the parcel of land, and red seal stamp; 1871 assignment for the Flying Scud beer house of 76 Rathbone Street, West Ham, Essex (now East London) between Edward Potter and Samuel Maynard; Abstract of an Act for Amendment of the Highways, chap. XLII, 1768 etc (approx. 50)

We use APC Couriers and everything is sent 24 hour tracked and signed for. Our standard mainland UK charge is £20 for up to 3 lots, and £2.00 per lot thereafter, regardless of weight (max.30kg). Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland & the islands - £25 for up to 3 lots then £2.00 per lot thereafter Some exclusions apply for larger lots such as dinner services, please contact our offices for a quote with regards to larger or bulkier lots. Jewellery, watches, coins and high value small items will be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery with maximum insurance of £2500.
Please note that this service is NOT insured, therefore if purchasers require further cover, then they must arrange this themselves. Alternatively we can send by Parcelforce 48 with insurance charged at £4 upto £500 cover, £8-£1000 cover, £12-£1500 and £20-£2500 cover. Lacy Scott & Knight accept no liability for items which are damaged or lost during postage, and cannot and will not assist in any claims unless insurance cover has been taken out. If you instruct your own courier packing is charged at £8 per parcel. Please give clear instructions when settling your account as to your shipping requirements so that we can process full payment and ship within 10 working days.
