A Victoria/George V Naval medal group of seven to include China War Medal (1900) with Relief of Pekin clasp, naming A.H. CRAVEN. P.O. ICL H.M.S. TERRIBLE, George V Distinguished Service Medal, 150825 A.H. CRAVEN. P.O. "LORD WIMBORNE" DARDANELLES. 25.MY. 1915, Royal Humane Society Silver medal for life saving (successfull), ARTHUR. H. CRAVEN R.N. 25TH MAY 1915, 1914-15 Star, T. 50825. A.H. CRAVEN. P.O.1.R.N.British War Medal, Victory medal, 150825. A.H. CRAVEN. P.O.1.R.N. and George V. Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, 150825. A.H. CRAVEN. P.O. ICL. H.M.S. VICTORY. The D.S.M and Royal Humane Society medals are both housed in a fitted leather case with gilt tooled lettering to the lid "Presented By Her Majesty Queen Mary, 8th May 1917, Presented By Admiral Pelly."

This lot include various accounts, documents and photographs relating to Petty Officer Arthur Henry Craven and his actions in the Dardanelles Operation at Gallipoli in May 1915.

P.O. Craven was serving aboard the trawler Lord Wimborne which was involved in minesweeping and the landing of Australian troops on the beaches of Gallipoli. He was awarded the D.S.M. for his actions on 25th April 1915 landing troops and ammunition at Gabe Tepe under heavy fire in which approximately 600 soldiers lost their lives.

After having off-loaded wounded Australian troops to the battleship H.M.S. Triumph, Lord Wimborne returned to the beach and was in close attendance when H.M.S. Triumph was attacked and damaged by German torpedoes; according to Craven the ship went down in seven minutes. During the attempted rescue of the men and crew, Craven jumped into the water and in 30 minutes managed to save approximately 20 lives It was for these deeds he was awarded the Royal Humane Society medal.
